Help Baby Alexia battle liver cancer
Donation protected
My 6 month old niece Alexia Genesis Rutherford-Cruz loves snuggles with mommy, watching Daddy box, and Kane Brown music.
In late summer, she began having some trouble with tummy time. Her abdomen started to bloat and feel hard, so her doctor ordered an ultrasound and x-ray. The test results came back inconclusive, so they were sent to Hamilton Sick Kids on September 21,2020 for an MRI.
On Wednesday September 23,2020, my brother Dave and my sister in law Jenny received the most devastating news that any parent can receive : there is a large tumour on her liver and it is growing quickly. They think it is likely hepatoblastoma, a rare form of liver cancer that affects infants and toddlers.
The doctors say that it is too large to operate on right now and she will need chemotherapy. On Friday, October 2, 2020, she had a biopsy and CT scan done to determine the extent of the disease and confirm exactly which type of cancer she has. We are currently waiting for the results.
Naturally, the whole family and everyone who has met Alexia is devastated. Dave and Jenny are both off work and have not left her side. They will not be returning to work anytime in the near future. Their priority right now is to be together with Alexia.
They need each other right now. They need to focus all of their time and energy on baby Alexia. Many expenses that come along with a sick child are not covered. Things are quickly adding up. Now is not the time to worry about their mortgage and bills.
We all have a long fight ahead of us; it is going to be a marathon.
If you can help in any way by donating or sharing this page, nothing is too small.
Any money not being spent directly on expenses will be going into an education fund for Alexia.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
