Help Baby Abdullah Get a Lifesaving Liver Transplant

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Maliha, and I’m reaching out to you with a plea to help save the life of my university (University of Dhaka) junior’s 5-month-old son, Abdullah. This little boy is fighting a rare and life-threatening condition called **biliary atresia**, a congenital disease in which the bile ducts are severely narrowed or absent. In Abdullah’s case, all three bile ducts are abnormally narrow, and his gallbladder has been absent since birth.

Background:

Abdullah's mother is Fatema Jahan completed BBA from University of Dhaka from Accounting & Information Systems Department.

**Abdullah’s Story:**

Since birth, Abdullah has suffered from persistent jaundice. Despite repeated doctor visits—starting when he was just 4 days old—his condition remained undiagnosed, as biliary atresia is extremely rare in Bangladesh. In fact, in Asia, only 1 in 15,000 children is diagnosed with this condition.

It wasn’t until November 6, 2024, when Abdullah was 3 months and 1 day old, that an ultrasound (USG) revealed his liver was severely enlarged. Follow-up tests, including a liver biopsy and HIDA scan, confirmed the devastating diagnosis of **Extrahepatic Biliary Atresia**.

Doctors explained that the primary treatment for biliary atresia is a surgical procedure called the **Kasai operation**, which can sometimes buy time. However, because more than 3 months had passed since his birth, the chance of success for Kasai surgery is now only 20%.

At this point, the **only hope for Abdullah’s survival is an urgent liver transplant**.

---

**The Challenge We Face:**

The liver transplant needs to be performed in India, as the procedure is unavailable in Bangladesh. The estimated cost of the transplant, including hospital expenses, transportation, and other incidental costs, is around **AUD 80,000–90,000 (approx.)**.

We have already managed to raise **AUD 20,000**, but we are still facing a **significant shortfall of AUD 60,000**.

Time is running out. The doctors have urged us to start the treatment immediately, as any delay could make the transplant ineffective and result in the loss of Abdullah’s life.

**Why We Need Your Help:**

Abdullah’s mother, who is a confirmed donor and a perfect match for the transplant, shares the following heartfelt plea:

*"As a mother, it’s unbearable to watch my baby suffer. We’ve done everything in our power to get this far—our passports, visas, and other formalities are complete. I am ready to give a part of my liver to save my son. But the financial burden is too great for us to bear alone.*

*I am begging everyone who reads this: please help us. Please give my child the chance to live and grow up. Even the smallest contribution can help bridge the gap and bring us closer to saving my son’s life."*
