Babucarr and I connected in a way I never expected—he reached out to me on TikTok after hearing my song, 'Pain is Fuel.' His words were so heartfelt, and I could tell the song had touched him deeply. I wrote that song to remind people that even in the hardest times, things can get better and it can always be worse. Babucarr’s story moved me, and has reminded me why I created this song, to change and heal the world and I knew I had to help.
Babucarr is 22 years old and lives in Gambia. Four years ago, he lost his mother to asthma, and since then, he’s been caring for his three siblings—Lamin (8), Satou (11), and Fatima (14)—as well as his elderly grandmother. Lamin, the youngest, now suffers from severe asthma too, and it’s become a daily struggle to get him the medication and treatment he needs. Their father left after their mother passed, so Babucarr is the only one supporting the family. He had to give up his own education to take care of everyone, but he’s incredibly smart and determined to create a better life for his siblings.
I want to do more than just help them get by. I own a 3PL (Third Party Logistics) company, and I’m ready to teach Babucarr my profession so he can work remotely and support his family long-term. For that, he needs a laptop, a phone, and cellular service. But the most urgent need is for Lamin’s asthma treatment—without it, his life is at risk. This family has faced so much loss, but Babucarr’s courage and hope inspire me every day. I believe that with your help, we can give them the support, supplies, and opportunities they need to thrive. Please join me in making a real difference for Babucarr and his family.
I have been helping them to get food to keep them fed for the next two weeks and blankets to stay warm as it is getting cold at night, which really has taken a toll on Lamin. That being said, I cannot do this alone and we are asking for your help. I know the holidays are here and it is hard times for a lot of people, but all this family wants for Christmas is to no longer have to worry about the health of their youngest sibling Lamin and their future. That is all I want as well.
