Hi, my name is Azzan Whaley, and I’m an Economics major at Howard University. I just completed my freshman year with a 3.7 GPA and many, many hours of community and campus involvement. I was awarded federal work-study and approved for the maximum amount, which I was depending on to cover the gap between my scholarships, Pell Grant, and financial aid.

Unfortunately, I never received the work-study funds because the program “ran out of money”. Then, at the end of the spring semester, I was told I owed $6,590, almost exactly what I would’ve earned through work-study during the year. I've worked hard and managed to reduce that amount to $2,312, but I’m worried I won’t be able to close the gap before the July 31st deadline.

Even so, I’ve been doing everything I can to stay enrolled and keep pushing forward. I truly love it at this university, even through all of the trials and tribulations they’ve put us through, and I would do anything to stay here all 4 years.
