Help Azy Heal

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Paul Ahlstrom and I am fundraising for Azelyn Curley (Azy), a 15 year old girl in our neighborhood . There is no judgement here on how we got here, we just want to show love and support for a neighbor family in need and help them put the pieces of a shattered life back together.

With permission of Azy and her family I will share the details. On June 17th 2021 Azy jumped off a 35 ft roof onto a cement patio in an attempt to end her life. Although Azy miraculously lived and avoided brain injury, she sustained severe injuries. Both of her feet and ankles were crushed, she has 4 spinal fractures, a fractured pelvis, fractured bones in her cheeks and her right arm and hand are fractured. She has undergone multiple surgeries to heal her body and there will be long-term physical impact. As she continues to heal physically, the focus turns to Azy's mental health.

Azy has a long road ahead of healing physically and mentally. The bills are starting to come in and the family is overwhelmed. Azy's mom Kristal has taken time off work to be with her and as the bills mount she is worried about the consequences for the time off work.

The health insurance will cover most of the medical bills except for the $6,500 personal and $13,500 family annual deductible for the hospital stay and operations, but the insurance does not cover all the mental health bills. As I researched the details of the insurance situation, I found there is a gap of approximately $1,000 per day for a minimum of 90 days of mental health stay as Azy has moved to a mental health support facility with 24/7 monitoring. The mental health care program requires up front payments from the family for their part and there are no payment plans available. The Curley family needs to come up with $30,000 a month and payment is required up front for a minimum of 90 days of treatment.

As I spoke with her grandparents (Jim and Linda Whitmore) and family, I was moved to help raise money for Azy to help her get her life back on track to help her reach her dream of becoming a Physician's Assistant in pediatrics.

Over the past two weeks I have researched and validated the Curley families' financial and insurance needs and have permission from her mother Kristal and grandparents (the Whitmores) to help with fundraising for her medical needs. There is an urgent need over the next 90 days to help lift their burden. Please join me in giving generously to help get Azy back on track.

Larger donations may be wired to the donation account set up on her behalf at Zions Bank.
