Help Azul Beat Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

To our family, friends, and community,
Azul was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Azul’s treatment started with a blood transfusion and will continue with chemotherapy, as well as additional long-term care. It is our hope we can all rally together as a community to lift Azul, show her how much she is loved and help her defeat this.
Let us tell you a little bit about Azul. Azul is a kind soul with a generous and giving spirit. At just 12 years old, she finds every opportunity to give back to the community with the resources she has. She already has a long history of donating her hair to Children With Hair Loss and she has a passion for protecting Mother Earth. She is a true animal lover, especially dogs. Her room is filled with quotes and artwork about spreading kindness and love to others. Azul is also a fierce cross-country runner. At her cross country meets, Azul is usually the smallest one in the group of runners, and although she may be petite, she is always the strongest and most determined runner out there, placing first almost every time. She always left the crowd mesmerized by her graceful and natural running ability. Azul truly has a tender heart and although she is approaching her teen years, she is holding on to every bit of her childhood as much as she can, and that’s why you’ll still see her caring for her American Girl Doll, Lea. She is the glue to her family of six and her mom’s right-hand girl. She is loved by so many and her heart of gold always wins everyone over, including her teachers, coaches and now Doctors and nurses. The hospital staff are constantly telling her parents what a special girl she is.
We know we have a strong community to support Azul on this long battle, and many have asked or are wondering how they can help:
First and foremost, we welcome all prayers, thoughts, love and strength for our sweet Azul. We wholeheartedly believe in the power of prayer! And please keep her parents Natalia and Omar, and Azul's wonderful team of Doctors and nurses at Phoenix Children’s Hospital also in your prayers.
Secondly, we have setup this GoFundMe account to help the Ortega family cover the financial costs associated with Azul’s long-term treatment, which we expect to be a substantial amount. Our hope is with this support, Omar and Natalia can focus all their energy on Azul and her treatment plan and not on this new shift of financial priorities. Azul’s parents are small-business owners (Race Timers) and they are both in the education field, Omar is a High School Spanish teacher and Natalia a part-time Speech Language Pathologist Assistant. Omar is in the middle of switching his job at a new High School, and although the family has insurance, they are unsure how their new insurance will cover any of Azul’s medical expenses.
Lastly, we are preparing for Azul to have multiple, and at times, long stays in the hospital, away from her three other siblings (Omar Dali, Luna and Rubi) and her two dogs (Lucas and Mickey), so we have created an Amazon Wish List with items we know will keep Azul busy and entertained.
