Hello friends, family & strangers near & far!
My name is Arulu, and I'm organizing this fundraiser for my dearest Azrya, who needs our help right now & would never ask for it on his own. This guy's been dealt an unfairly misfortunate hand this year & I still see him get up & meet every single day with an admirably strong & undefeatable spirit, never complaining. He shows up with inspiration for projects, the power of ten thousand suns for any work that needs to be done, and with so much thorough care for his friends & loved ones.
All that with a broken shoulder & torn joint tissue from an accident earlier this winter. For the past three months, he's received inadequate medical attention from rude (probably overworked/ understaffed) practitioners & struggled daily with severe pain management. But after many communicative battles with the psychotic medical system, he's finally been scheduled for surgery & has been very much looking forward to getting back to more optimal health.
Needless to say this has all taken a toll on our hearts & minds. So we went on a hike yesterday to calm ourselves down in preparation for surgery this week. And SHABAM! Long story short, Azrya landed on his foot badly, fractured his heel, and we spent the next 10 hours extracting him from the bottom of Linville Gorge, through the night into the sunrise.
Only two of the *12* EMTs dispatched even did anything. By the time they arrived we had already covered half of the mere mile or so distance. And while 10 of them were indeed burly dudes, they did not carry him out, but rather walked along joking among themselves while he limped uphill & literally crawled through thick poison ivy over rugged terrain for over 5 more hours on a broken foot. I took it upon my damn self to piggyback him up stretches of the trail a few times while they just walked along behind.
After an ambulance ride and a hospital visit, he's been home resting after a serious all night ordeal and new foot fracture, with surgery already scheduled this week for his 3 month old shoulder fracture. He now cannot walk for some time, in addition to the 6 weeks of intensive immobilization already prescribed post-surgery. Needless to say, his physical health will require some time off work despite accruing medical bills.
Azrya works hard & cares even harder. He never stops creating- art is his native language. He is passionate about his mural business & working collaboratively with other artists here in our Asheville community as well as in Atlanta & Santa Fe. I want to see him uplifted & supported in his time of need the way I've seen him show up for so many others. Let's help him have a full & swift recovery from here on out by enabling him to rest as much as possible without the added anxiety of financial gouging by an insane medical system that mistreats and takes advantage of people at their most vulnerable.
All funds go directly to Azrya for paying current medical bills including surgery, orthopedic care & doctor's appointments, medications, and physical therapy.
