My name is Katie, and I humbly ask for help with my son’s medical needs. I am not only a single mother but a single parent, his dad has not been in our lives for over a year, nor does he help financially. My son is a beautiful 2 year old and has many medical diagnoses, but he has one, possibly 2, surgeries coming up.
My son’s name is Aziel, meaning God is my strength. He is the strongest soul with the most beautiful aura. Aziel is a twin, but his twin angel is in heaven.
Very soon in March, he’ll have hip surgery for his hip dislocation. He’ll be placed almost in a full body cast for months, and he’ll be in a hip brace for months after that. He’ll need special accommodations as he won’t fit into anything with his cast on. He’s also special needs which complicates it all even more. He needs a new stroller, a custom table to eat and play, he’ll be wearing double the diapers, new bath accommodations since he can’t actually take a bath and get in water, hotel stays and gas since his surgery will be out of town, just to name a few. My son has severe hydrocephalus and was given a 0% chance of survival. He had brain surgery at just 4 days old. He still doesn’t walk or talk or crawl. He takes an early start class, physical therapy, occupational therapy, will soon begin ABA therapy, speech therapy, and a second intense physical therapy. He also has esotropia, and his doctor is constantly going back and forth on whether he will need eye surgery or not. He needs to wear his glasses, but because of my son’s hydrocephalus his head is the size of an adult and has some deformations, I’ve had to pay out of pocket for several glasses to see which work for him.
I am in Bakersfield, California and all of my son’s specialists are out of town in Los Angeles. His neurosurgeon, ophthalmologist, and orthopedic surgeon. So I am constantly going out of town, on top of all of his appointments and therapies in town. I use to be able to squeeze in some time to work, but that has become impossible to do. I have help from my mother to watch my son, but she has arthritis and has had surgery on her knee so she doesn’t always feel her best. My parents have so generously helped me with so much, but they’re struggling as well. I don’t receive disability or get paid as his caregiver, in the works of that, but currently don’t get help for that. It’s not easy to ask for help and I know times are tough, but if you are able to help with anything at all, it is very much appreciated.
Most importantly, I ask for prayers for my baby. God saved my son’s life, and He continues to show me how present He is in our lives. I ask for good health for my baby, strength for my son for everything he’s about to go through, and strength and wisdom for myself. Thank you in advance and thank you for reading about my son’s journey. God bless you.
