We are reaching out to you on behalf of our friend Ayden Jones. Ayden, a high school junior, was diagnosed with germ cell cancer on New Year's Eve of 2018.
Ayden began feeling very ill just after his beloved marching band, the Ponte Vedra High School Ocean of Sound, finished 5th at FMBC State Finals in November and, for several weeks weathered what he and his family believed was a nasty viral infection, possibly the flu. Around Christmas, it became apparent that they might be dealing with something far more serious, and Ayden was checked into the hospital. By New Year's Eve he'd been diagnosed with germ cell cancer and quickly discovered that the cancer had metastasized to other organs.
Since his diagnosis, Ayden has completed his first round of chemo and is on to round two at Wolfson Children's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. As you can imagine, each round becomes a bit more tolerable, but battling cancer means missing school, not playing with the band, and missing out on a variety of things that matter most to Ayden. The great news is that Ayden has a terrific attitude and is focused on beating his disease. While his prognosis is strong (doctors have indicated that this is the most commonly treatable form), his battle will be long, and Ayden will likely not be back in action until the 2019-2020 school year.
You should know that Ayden is an integral and beloved part of his band family, not only a talented musician, but a friend and a leader who pushes his fellow bandmates with a smile, making everyone better. We know he needs to put all of his energy, time and passion into beating this cancer, but we want him back with us as soon as possible! Ayden is a fighter with a huge heart.
This fundraising campaign is being started to help Ayden and his family defray the cost of a variety of expenses including doctor's visits, treatments, hospitalizations, and others that are currently being paid out of pocket.
The road ahead won't be easy for him and we're asking you to help us raise funds to support Ayden's fight.
Ayden’s aunt, Victoria Martin, is the beneficiary of this fundraiser as she is coordinating the funds for distribution to Ayden’s family.
