Help Aybels fight against cancer

Donation protected
On May 24th, this last Monday night, Aybel was taken to the hospital after complaining of belly pain. His abdomen was swollen to the point that his belly button was pressing out. After being taken to Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital, he was then transferred to Westley Hospital, where they found that his liver was three times the size it should be. That prompted the doctors to conduct an MRI, which showed that his liver was engulfed in tumors, and he had spots in his lungs, and a tumor may also surround his IVC artery, or the tumor may have penetrated the artery. It is unknown at this time. They have now taken a biopsy that has been sent to St. Judes Children's Hospital. On Thursday, Aybel was given a blood transfusion. Friday morning Aybel received his first chemotherapy treatment. Noticing his liver function was declining, Aybel was transferred to Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha on Friday afternoon.

On the plus side, Aybel was able to take his first plane ride!

After arriving there, he received another blood transfusion, a chest x-ray, and another MRI on Sunday. It's now known that there are 13 spots in his lungs, and only about half an inch of his liver isn't covered in the tumors. They are watching the IVC see if it is a blood clot or a tumor causing the blockage.

It is thought that the type of cancer Aybel has is Hepatoblastoma a rapidly spreading malignant cancer that starts in the liver in young white males between the ages of newborn and five years old. At this time, we are waiting on confirmation from St. Jude.
Aybel will receive his next chemotherapy treatment on Friday, June 4th.

Aybel does have insurance, although we all know insurance doesn't cover everything. Any funds collected would go towards paying anything they don't cover and paying the insurance premiums and helping with bills since I'm unable to work due to being in the hospital with him every day. We have been to 3 hospitals in the last week, and who knows how many more over the years to come.
Keeping up with rent on our home is equally important, so we don't lose our place to live when we come back from the hospital.

Keeping Aybel in your prayers would be the greatest help we could receive.

Thank you all for taking your time to read this. If you are not able to help, we understand. If you are, we appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts. Please know that Aybel is such a strong kid and has been able to handle everything that has been thrown his way. Although he really hates being in the hospital, we have complete faith that he will get through this.

Thanks again,
Kyra McDonald
