On Sunday, May 23rd, Ayanna was involved in electric scooter accident in Charlotte, NC. She was riding on the scooter when it abruptly came to a stop, launching Ayanna's body from the scooter and causing her to hit her head on the concrete. 

This accident resulted in a concussion, bone fractures, as well as brain bleeds. Ayanna was rushed to the ER and admitted into the ICU. Ayanna's mother left her family at home in Columbia, SC to be at the hospital in Charlotte, NC. Hours after being admitted, doctors performed a second CAT scan and determined emergency surgery was needed as they discovered a new bleed in Ayanna's brain. Thankfully, doctors did not find any torn blood vessels in her brain and was able to control the bleed that was on the outside of her brain. Ayanna remained in the ICU for the next few days and was moved to a step down unit in the hospital. Doctors have determined that Ayanna has traumatic brain injuries along with the bone fractures in her back. 

As of today, May 27th, Ayanna remains in the hospital recovering and doctors are looking to remedy her pain levels prior to her being released. 

Ayanna was the primary cook her home, providing meals for her mother and her four siblings. This accident has impacted her family causing her mother to have to rent a hotel room while out of town, due to Covid restrictions not allowing her to stay at the hospital. Being in the hospital has also meant purchasing all meals for both Ayanna and Khadijah during this time.

Inshallah we are hoping Ayanna will be released from the hospital tomorrow. We are anticipating high medical bills from this accident along with other expenses such as lodging, gas, transportation, food, and other expenses related to her recovery over the next few months.
