Help Aya escape Gaza and rebuild her life
Donation protected
This fundraiser is on behalf of my friend and fellow human Aya, her story below.
Hello my name is Aya Maghari
I am an artist, businesswoman and dreamer from Gaza. I had a beautiful life. I was preparing for my wedding day and built my house with my fiancé, Karam. I had a beautiful family, a home, and a training center for women. I wove handmade pieces of art and trained many abused women to weave wool and open their own projects. Since the war came, I've lost 60 people. The bombs destroyed my house, and I lost my father, the center, all my supplies, my wedding clothes, everything and a piece that we bought for my house. Everything was destroyed. We were displaced from Al-Bureij camp to the city of Rafah and we lived in a tent until I got gastrointestinal disease and developed a stomach hernia, and because of malnutrition, I lost 15 kilos of my weight, and it did not end. This is where we are displaced again
Al-Nuseirat, the suffering continues, and we are trying to live with the war and the very difficult circumstances. But my story doesn't have to end here. With your help, I can rebuild my house, buy my wedding dress and clothes again, hold my wedding, establish my shop, buy colored wool threads, needles, threads, a sewing machine, and wooden frames that I use to make my artwork, in addition to replacing the laptop, printer, pens, and paper that I used to run my business.
My unique handcrafted weaves provide a valuable income and source of livelihood for me and my husband to support myself and buy food and life necessities, as well as to make a positive impact in my community. What started as a childhood hobby has evolved into a business that has helped support my family during the pandemic.
During quarantine I decided to take this seriously, so I studied business online and hope that one day I will again have a workshop that can be a training center where other refugees like me can learn skills like sewing and knitting. Your generosity can help our dream come true.
Thank you for listening,
Aya
