Avonlea is my sister: mother to 2-year-old Jesse and wife to Andrew. On a daily basis Avonlea manages a host of medical related issues including a very specialized medical diet for PKU, numerous symptoms of a mild traumatic brain injury, and most recently, hearing loss. About a year ago Avonlea was diagnosed with almost complete hearing loss in her left ear and partial hearing loss in her right. All of her symptoms point toward Menieré’s Disease, which is a disorder of the inner ear.

In 2017 Avonlea had a kayaking incident which resulted in concussion, and long term post concussive symptoms. The symptoms of this brain injury matched and masked many of the symptoms of Menieré’s, and it went undiagnosed for years. It has been deemed crucial that Avonlea gets hearing aids in both ears but they come with a high price tag, which Andrew’s benefits only cover a small portion of. Avonlea has been unable to work for years and her family lives on the single income of Andrew and a her small disability income. 

We are asking for help to fund the purchase of her hearing aids as soon as possible: hopefully by March 2021.
