Help avoid eviction for state worker & single mom
Donation protected
Hi, My name is Kaire and I am making this fundraiser for my sweet friend Vanessa who is facing eviction. I met Vanessa as a union steward for SEIU 503 when she was experiencing multiple hardships. I am asking my friends, family, and Union peers to please help.
Vanessa is a single mom living in Portland, OR who works for the state, processing eligibility paperwork for other folks in need to receive state services she doesn’t even qualify for. The state has changed payroll services and it has impacted lots of workers by under paying, overpaying and then pulling money out of accounts and more. Vanessa’s financial hardships started at the beginning of the year due to needing time off for family health issues and payroll taking a big chunk of her paycheck out and it has cascaded from there with more health problems, her son breaking his ankle multiple times from sports, and a bout of COVID and strep throat. She has been going to weekly appointments to sell plasma to even eat.
Vanessa had been working hard to raise her credit score to over 700 and it is now down below 300 due to overdrafts, credit cards not being paid on time and rent being late multiple months in a row. Her situation is dire. If she is evicted, she will not qualify for other housing.
Vanessa has reached out to many resources trying to get help and all of them had said they are either out of money or she missed the cut off dates. The situation for many people right now is beyond repair and so many helping agencies are struggling to keep people afloat. Which is why I am asking you to help.
Vanessa has to come up with $1800 by this Friday, May 19, 2023 to avoid court ordered eviction. She has overdrafted $400 from her bank account and will be missing wages again in her next paycheck which means even if we can get the minimum needed for this week, she will be hit again next month. I am asking for $3500 to cover the immediate need and help get her bank account at even and have a little extra to get her started for next month. Can you help keep her and her son in their apartment while she works on getting caught up?
