Hello family and friends near and far. This handsome little guy is 3-year-old A’vien. As you can see, A’vien is currently in the hospital and has been fighting for his life for over a week now. Sadly, A’vien is the victim of a gunshot wound to the head that took place the day after Father’s Day on Monday, June 16, 2025. Since that day, he has undergone multiple surgeries and was in a coma until just a few days ago when he began slowly showing signs that our baby is still here with us and fighting his hardest to regain consciousness. By the grace of God, he opened his eyes almost one week to the day of the tragic event. On Sunday, June 22, 2025, our baby came back to us! He said, “Hi” to his Nana! We are so thankful to have him back; however, our journey to recovery and healing has only just begun.
As you can imagine, his motor skills, cognitive thinking, and physical function abilities are uncertain at this point in time. This once active and very energetic 3-year-old baby has the toughest fight he has ever known in his short little life ahead of him in the following months to come. He has no idea what happened to him. All he knows is one moment he was living his normal life, and the next he is waking up in the most pain he’s ever felt, terrified in a hospital room full of strangers while he’s looking for the faces he knows and listening to hear the voices that comfort him.
Not only was A’vien a victim in this tragedy, he has an 8-year-old brother, Azaron. Azaron has been struggling with nightmares and is terrified that “his baby” isn’t going to survive. No 8-year-old should ever have to experience this type of pain. Nothing for this family has been normal, and they have a long road ahead of them before they even begin to see a glimmer of what they once called “normal” in life.
His family has already missed a week of work and is uncertain of what financial burdens may arise in the very near future. We are asking for anything that you can offer. Every little bit helps. Let’s help keep this baby surrounded by those he loves and trusts the most in this world; he needs them by his side now more than ever. Expenses add up fast when you’re going between the hospital and home, especially while having an 8 year old in tote. But what’s more, they all need a home to come home to, with lights and power, when this baby recovers enough to be able to go home back to his own bed. Thank you inadvance.
