My name is Avery Schmid. I am a 22-year-old woman living with the diverse challenges of cerebral palsy, and I am currently an online student pursuing my dream of becoming a special education teacher. I was inspired to follow this path because I was once a student in special education myself, and I experienced firsthand the benefits of having that kind of support. After completing my GED and prerequisites, I plan to attend San Diego State University to continue my studies.

I am an independent woman who lives with 24-hour, around-the-clock care. despite the demands of my health, I live a very active life. when I am not attending doctor's appointments, searching for work, or focusing on my education, I spend as much time as I can with my family-they are my greatest source of strength and support.

balancing this kind of lifestyle with ongoing medical needs comes with significant financial challenges, especially when it comes to reliable transportation. in the past, I was fortunate to have access to accessible vans, but due to family conflicts, those vehicles are no longer available to me. Because of this, I have started a GoFundMe with the goal of obtaining a vehicle that is fully under my ownership-one that will allow me to safely and reliably get me to medical appointments, school, work, and everyday activities.

I am a determined and hardworking person who always tries to find solutions on my own before asking for help. I already have a plan in place to find work and save money independently. However, the type of specialized, accessible vehicle I need is beyond what I can afford on my own

it is not easy for me to ask for help, as I take pride in being resourceful and self-sufficient. I am sharing my story not with the expectation, but with hope that any support given along this journey will help me move closer to independence.
