Hello from the Bree Half of Kit Rocha!

First, the TL;DR: After a series of scheduling mishaps and administrative nonsense, Donna needed expensive tests & also surgery that will blow through her entire deductible in the first week of January. If this had happened one week ago, she would not have to pay anything! But this is the system we're stuck in, and this is an expense no one saw coming. I'm trying to raise enough money that she can at least get the surgery next week without stressing!

The Longer Story: Donna has been on a really rocky health adventure over the past two years. She was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and while her doctors tried to manage the symptoms of that, they triggered a terrible diabetic crisis. At this time last year, her A1C was over 11%--a situation I am told is professionally called "oh shit what?!?"

She has spent the past year coming back to health and trying to balance the diabetes and UC--and the fact that treatment for one often aggravates the other. However, a recent colonoscopy revealed a polyp over 3cm--an alarming situation given that it wasn't there 2 years ago. We spent the holidays waiting for pathology to come back and a few days ago got the good news that these do not appear to be cancer!

However, the speed of the growth and the fact that she spent the year just gently bleeding internally (another situation I'm told is considered Less Than Ideal), worries the doctors. So they want immediate tests & surgery to make sure SURE sure that there isn't something sneaky & bad going on.

Unfortunately, scheduling mishaps meant this all happened 3 months after it was supposed to, meaning poor Donna (for the second time in too few years) is facing surgery & expensive medical treatment in the first week of January, when her deductible has reset. It's fully ridiculous that a week can be the difference between getting care and financial devastation but here we are.

Goal: I'm hoping that we'll just need to get her through the deductible & surgery and that everything will come back awesome. However we still don't know how much of the surgery she'll have to pay for after her deductible, so I may come back and raise the goal. I just wanted to get this up in hopes she can pay next week.
