Help Averie on Her Road to Recovery

Donation protected
It all started on a Saturday afternoon. Averie, a healthy 9 year old girl, was at her soccer game when she suddenly slumped over and started having a seizure. Averie was rushed to the hospital where they thought it might not be a seizure, they thought she was having a stroke. At first there was disbelief, how can a healthy 9 nine year old have a stroke? But that is exactly what happened. Averie had a stroke that affected the left side of her brain.

Four days later, while still in the ICU at the hospital, Averie suffered a second stroke and her brain started to swell. Because of the stroke and the swelling, Averie had to undergo an emergency thrombectomy and a craniectomy. A part of her skull was removed in order to give her brain room to swell and not cause further damage.

Two days later, Averie suffered a brain bleed. At this time, the doctors rushed her into emergency brain surgery again. After this surgery, Averie’s parents and family prepared for the worst. Losing Averie was a real possibility and if she did survive, the doctors thought she would not be able to speak, comprehend language, or move any of her right side. Over the next 5 days Averie was sedated and intubated. She needed to get an MRI but was too unstable to leave the ICU for an even an hour to get the test done. On the sixth day after her second brain surgery, despite being
sedated, Averie started to wake up and respond to simple commands. On the seventh day after surgery, Averie was extubated and when she was awake enough, she saw her mother and smiled.

Averie is currently still in ICU, but soon she will be moved to a rehabilitation center for intensive therapy. Averie has a long road of recovery ahead of her, but she is here and she is fighting everyday.

Please help Averie’s family by donating to help them pay for her extensive hospital bills. Averie has already spent 16 days in ICU and is looking at a 2-3 month stay in a rehabilitation center. Your generosity and support are greatly appreciated. Thank you.
