Help Averie on her Long Recovery from Severe Burn Injuries

Donation protected
Good day everybody.

My name is Sihan and I'm a mother to our beautiful 20-month old girl Averie who has brought nothing but joy and laughter to our life since she was born. My husband and I operate a restaurant in our small town in Loire Valley, France where Averie is pretty much the mascot of the establishment, greeting guests with her infectious smile and serving bags of bread to the tables.

On the 17th October night, Averie was involved in a horrendous accident in the restaurant. She had wandered off into the kitchen and tugged hard on a cord connected to the deep fat fryer resulting in hot oil spilling all over her tiny body and splashing on the floor on which she later slipped and fell - burning her palms and fingers. During the incident, I was just within 3 meters and acted as best as I could with the help of my husband, heroic bystanders and paramedics to alleviate the situation. But the damage was done, between the mayhem I witnessed the skin falling from both her arms. Averie was brought to the nearest pediatric hospital by ambulance, some 84km away. It felt like eternity.

Averie sustained serious 2nd degree burns over 20% of her body, mostly on her torso, arms, hands and legs. She is currently in Burn ICU and is set to be here for the next 3 weeks at least. Notably, the road to recovery is long and may require grafting (to be determined), rehabilitation, therapy and specialized care over the next few years. The overwhelming cost of this long journey weighs heavily on both me and my husband's spirits.

It is with a true open heart that we share our family's financial situation which already has been difficult since we had newly acquired a restaurant in May last year. This green light came unexpectedly after Averie's birth in January. Since my husband and I are its official owners, in between the huge start-up investment involved in restoring a historical landmark and the restaurant's operating costs, we have not written ourselves a single paycheck since; combined with the costs of raising our newborn baby, it has been taxing.

As we currently go through the hardest part of witnessing her suffering, we wish to focus on the wellbeing of our child and not be burdened by the costs of (or worse, have to compromise on) treatments when presented.

We humbly ask for your financial support on the long road to recovery. No donation is too small.

The funds raised will go towards:
  • Skin graft surgeries and laser treatments

  • Rehabilitation and therapy - Averie is bandaged from waist up like a mummy so therapy would be required to help her regain her strength and mobility.

  • Medication and treatment - tons of creams, sunblock, painkillers will be prescribed by the doctors over the next few months to ensure protection, prevent infection, encourage skin growth, etc; and because of the extent of damage on her body, this would be required in large volumes. Thermal cures are also encouraged in the future.

  • Basic living and miscellaneous: As I am absent from work at the restaurant for the next 3 weeks (at least) , the husband will have to hire additional help to cope with the reduction in manpower. Also, repeated trips to and fro to the hospital (84km away) on a daily basis are bound to have deep reaches on our pockets. Future childcare solutions for the child whilst we are at work in order to prevent such a catastrophe from happening again are especially pressing.

For those of you have met A, you would have know her to be a brilliant, awfully expressive and cheerful little girl. Help us win Averie's smile back.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Times are tough, we know, so even if you can't make a donation, it would mean the world if you could share this within your close circles and hold us in your prayers.

Regards,
Sihan
