Help Aven get Top Surgery!
Hello friends and dear ones,
My name is Aven and I’ve been out as non-binary since late 2018, but I’ve dreamed of gender affirming care for much longer. I’ve put into written word that I’ve wanted a flat chest going back a decade, and even before that, when I was a young kid and learned what “androgynous” meant, I’ve wanted that for myself.
As I approach my third decade on this wonderful, wild, and weird planet, I’ve decided I’m done waiting.
My top surgery is scheduled for June 20th of this year, and I’ll be seeing the results at my follow-up appointment on June 26th, my birthday. The surgeon’s fee must be paid in full four weeks before the surgery date, so I’ll be fundraising until about May 19th. I'll be posting updates on my instagram story and twitter feed, both @aesartstudio.
Since I’m unable to afford an insurance plan that covers out-of-network care, the only financial help I’ll be receiving is from you lovely folks. The money going into this fund will help cover part of the surgeon’s fee, the hospital’s fees, supplies for recovery (pillows, gauze, over-the-counter medicines, etc), and financial assistance to take the sting out of missing so many weeks of work (I have an active job with a lot of lifting, so I’ll be out the full six-to-eight weeks).
As a resident of Florida, what should be an act of routine care feels strangely radical, but as an adult, I have more legal protections in place for my care. Unfortunately, the youth of our state aren’t as lucky. If you have more to give, please look into organizations like Prism that offer help to the most vulnerable in our community.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
