Our sweet Ava is 16 years old — but her life has been anything but what most teenagers get to experience.

While other teens dream about dances, driving, and their futures, Ava has spent her teenage years in hospital rooms, connected to IV poles, fighting for her life.

Ava was just 11 years old when she was first diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that begins in the muscle tissue. For five long years, she has endured more than any child ever should — countless rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries. Every time we thought we were getting ahead, the cancer found another way to fight back.

Recently, we learned the devastating news that Ava’s cancer has metastasized, spreading to other parts of her body. There is no cure for this stage. Our only option and hope now is chemotherapy — not as a path to recovery, but as a way to prolong her life and give her more time to experience the world she deserves to know.

Despite all she’s been through, Ava continues to smile. She laughs. She jokes with nurses. She dreams of simple joys — feeling the ocean breeze, going on small adventures, making memories with her family and friends. She’s a light, even on the darkest days.
