Help Ava become an Engineer like Daddy
Donation protected
Hi I'm Jefren's sister, Joan. His daughter Ava is my niece. Mike is Ava's grandfather and will be withdrawing funds on behalf of Ava, who is a minor and unable to do so on her own.
Tragically Jefren passed away on Monday, February 15, 2021 from cardiac arrhythmia and other health complications, leaving his daughter, Ava, fatherless and without a income provider. Due to the situation with COVID, Ava is doing remote schooling and her mother, Kia, is unable to go to work AND care for Ava at home full-time. No one was expecting this. Jef wasn't yet 50 years old. His parents are still alive. His last living grandparent died about 10 years ago, after almost reach 100 years old. To say that were all stunned is an understatement. Thankfully, Jef has some work insurance which should come through in a few months, but these are extremely trying times.
A number of Jefren's co-workers and friends have expressed an interest in donating money to help out with Ava's future education. If she's going to be an engineer like Daddy, that's at least another 15 years of education. Alternatively, she could choose to study some other discipline or field. At just 9 years old, she still has time to decide her vocation. We would be proud of her whatever field she chose to major in.
My parents and I, and our extended families, are already trying to figure out how to proceed to best help Ava ,and her mother Kia, survive these tough COVID times and restrictions. I'm sure we could help them get by, but Kia and Ava would truly appreciate any and all help offered.
Some of the money may be used for the following education-related purposes:
1. to hire a full-time baby sitter so that Kia could actually go out and work.
2. to hire tutors to supplement the teachers where remote learning cannot possibly replace, in-person teaching.
3. to pay for summer education camps, summer school, or other supplemental learning venues to help Ava catch up to actual recommended guidelines.
4. to pay for sports activities to help Ava catch up to pre-Covid health and vigour (once those activities are allowed to resume).
5. to pay for books, pencils, lab equipment, computers to help enable classroom teaching
6. to continue making deposits into the 529 education Plan that Jef has already set up for her.
7. to pay for College application forms
8. to pay for campus visits to colleges that might not be local.
9. to help for any post-secondary education tuition and fees
10. Other
Admittedly, in these trying times, some of the initial money may be used to help Ava and Kia, get through these restricted COVID times without a regular income. But, the goal is to get Ava back into the physical classroom and to get Kia back out into the workforce. And ultimately to get Ava to graduate from the College, not only of her choice, but of her dreams.
I know my brother would have wanted to help out a family, friend, or colleague who might be in a similar tight situation after suffering such as a tragedy. He would have appreciated any financial help from family, friends, colleagues to help his daughter, his pride and joy, realize her goals and dreams.
Rest in peace Jef. You were a beloved brother, father, son, cousin, nephew, manoy, kuya, godfather, friend, pool player, co-worker. I have no doubt that the loving community that surrounded you will not let Ava fall through the educational cracks because of this unforeseen tragedy.
Thank you for your friendship, love, comraderie, and understanding with Jefren over the years. While generous with his own time and money himself, Jefren's kind-hearted soul wouldn't want you to donate if it causes financial hardship. If you choose to donate to this fundraiser, Jef, Ava and Kia, as well as both their families, will be forever grateful. Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers for Jefren.
