As some of you may know, I have reached end-stage kidney failure due to a rare genetic disorder called Alports Syndrome. This is also why I am hard of hearing and wear hearing aids. As soon as I found out a few weeks ago, I have been trying to plan a trip to Vancouver Island to cross a few things off my bucket list in the summer. This will be my last feasible trip for likely years. I have to stay within a few hours of my transplant hospital at all times once I'm on the list, and when I start dialysis I can't travel with the equipment and I'll be too ill. Even after the transplant, I will be on heavy immunosuppressants for at least a year.
On top of all that, my work has now cut my hours significantly. What I used to make in a week, I will be making in a month. My dad is also in end-stage kidney failure so money is tight in my family as well. Normally I would just put off the trip or get a new job, but unfortunately, I'm on limited time.
However, I know a trip is a privilege. I don't expect to make the goal, and really anything helps. I would not ask for help if this trip wasn't extremely important to me. We will be primarily camping, so nothing luxurious. Campsites, supplies, flights, etc all add up. Any donations will go solely to fund the trip. I want to be able to do this before my life and my health are changed forever. Thank you for reading. Love you guys! -Autumn
