Hi everyone. I am starting this gofundme account to help a special little girl. My niece Autumn Bloom is on her way to beating cancer but she needs our help. Autumn noticed a bump on her left leg a few months ago, and after a couple of doctor visits with no change an MRI was ordered. The results of the MRI were a shock to all of us when it showed she had a tumor growing in her right leg just below her knee, on the side of her tibia.
After consulting with the doctor it was decided that a biopsy would need to be done to see if the tumor was cancerous. The result of the biopsy revealed Autumn has a Low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma (LGFMS). It is a very rare type of low grade sarcoma with only 350, well now 351 cases ever reported. Autumn will be going in for surgery to remove the tumor. The doctor has told us that this type of cancer does not react well with chemotherapy, and he is reluctant to expose such a young patient to radiation, so surgery with removal of healthy tissue around the tumor is the first option. The removal of the tumor will leave a large open wound that will require skin grafts and months of rehabilitation once it heals.
Autumn is also going to have a P.E.T test done since this cancer is known to metastasize to the lungs. We are staying hopeful that has not happened yet, but we cannot be certain until the testing is completed.
Unfortunately this type of tumor has a high incidence of both metastasis and recurrence between 42%-64% so Autumn will need to be screened every 3 months initially, then less frequently, but at least once a year for the rest of her life.
While her mother has insurance, there are high co pays and deductibles that will have to be paid out of pocket. Autumns mother Jennifer is a loving, caring, wonderful, hard working superwoman who is taking on this cancer challenge with her daughter as a single mother. The diagnosis, treatment, and continued screening are costly, so all of the money raised will go to the current and continued treatment.
