On Sunday March 20th, 2022, Autumn (Entiontierenhte) Martin, a 20-year-old Mohawk woman from Grand River Reservation in Ontario was brutally assaulted by a small group of local men and their dogs.
The unprovoked attack occurred only a short distance from Autumn’s home, where she lives with her mother, 6 siblings and 6 nieces/nephews. Autumn was immediately taken to Hampton General Hospital where she received care for a broken orbital bone, numerous bruises over her face and body, and stitches for cuts and dog bites.

Autumn was immediately taken to Hampton General Hospital where she received care for a broken orbital bone, numerous bruises over her face and body, and stitches for cuts and dog bites.
Community members of the reservation have advised that the assailants may retaliate if she pursues any legal reprisal, they would burn down her home and murder her whole family with guns. Sadly, this is not the first such incident that has occurred on this residential territory. Despite these men being known for a reputation of violent behaviour, no one is willing to disclose their identities fearing for their own safety.
Since this incident, Autumn and her family are living in constant terror that everyday could be their last. Autumn’s mother, Kawennontie Martin, now feels the urgent need to leave the reservation and provide a safe environment for her children to not only live and be children, but to finally thrive.
Autumn strongly adheres to sacred traditions of her ancestral lineage of the Haudenosaunee People. She is well known for her warm and empathetic heart for humanity and creation. Autumn is deeply loved by her family and many friends around Turtle Island. She enjoys drawing, painting, listening to music, and spending time with nature as she openly shares her Mohawk traditional knowledge to serve humanity. Autumn brings with her some of the important wisdom of this new generation as she walks peacefully upon Mother Earth.
Kawennonttie is an artist, a Waldorf teacher, and social worker. This elder, grandmother, mother, sister, friend and pillar of support to many is in need of a return of the love with which she has blessed so many. She now feels in desperate need of our collective support.
On behalf of Autumn, Kawennontie and all her children and grandchildren, we are reaching out to you for your support and generosity. All funds received will be going directly to Kawennontie and her family.
We hope to raise funds for the following:
- coverage of costs for Kawennontie and family to relocate to a safer community
- coverage of Autumn’s medical costs, including facial reconstruction, mental health and trauma recovery
- coverage to eventually pursue legal action and deliver justice, including raising awareness of these abhorrent issues
- coverage for Kawennontie’s daily living expenses as she secures a job at her new location
Autumn, her family, and all her friends thank you for your care.
