Our Family's Journey: Medical expenses for heart transplant journey
Hello, friends, family, and kind strangers,
My name is Austin Brooks, and I'm a 37-year-old father from Surprise, Arizona. I'm blessed with a loving family of 6: my incredible wife, who stands by me through thick and thin, and our 4 wonderful children who bring joy to every day. We've always been a close-knit unit, cherishing simple moments like family outings, camping, movie nights, and weekend adventures. But life has thrown us a curveball that's tested our strength in ways we never imagined.
A few years ago, I was diagnosed with stage 4 heart failure. It's been a whirlwind of hospital stays, medications, and uncertainty. Now, I'm on the waiting list for a heart transplant—a lifeline that could give me more time with my loved ones. Due to my condition, I'm unable to work, and my wife has had to scale back to part-time hours to keep our health insurance intact. We're also navigating the long road of disability approval, which could take another year or more to process through the courts. In the meantime, our finances are stretched thin, covering essentials while I attend constant doctor appointments, specialist visits, and tests that are crucial for my survival.
Our current vehicle is on its last legs—it's unreliable, breaks down often, and isn't equipped to handle the frequent trips we need to make. With my health requiring regular travel to medical centers (sometimes multiple times a week), we desperately need a new minivan. Something safe, spacious, and dependable that can accommodate our family, medical equipment, and the long drives without worry. A new minivan would not only ensure I can get to my appointments on time but also allow us to maintain some normalcy, like taking the kids to school or enjoying rare family outings.
We're turning to GoFundMe because we believe in the power of community and the kindness of people like you. Any donation, big or small, will bring us closer to this goal and ease the burden during this challenging time. If you can't donate, sharing our story would mean the world to us.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading our story and considering helping. Your support gives us hope and reminds us we're not alone in this fight.
With gratitude,
Austin and Family
