Austin is a very social 12 year old that has a heart of gold!Austin is in his first year of middle school as a 6th grader. He is active in drama class performing as the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. Austin is also very involved in theatre and musicals and played as Lord Farquaad in Shrek. He loves flag football and plays in several rock bands for School of Rock as lead vocalist. When he's not busy with drama class and singing, he loves hanging out with his two older sisters, his mom, dad and their three dogs.
In late January after having a hard time breathing and experiencing chest pain Austin and his family were given some unfortunate news. Austin went in for what they thought was asthma and possible pneumonia on 1/22 . Through the chest x-ray a large mass was found which was compressing his heart, lungs, air way and main artery in his neck. He was immediately admitted into the hospital and rushed to UC Davis’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit due to the severity of the mass in his chest. UC Davis had the specialized care facility necessary in order to perform the procedures to diagnose Austin’s condition.
Austin was diagnosed with advanced stage 3 Non-Hodgkin's T-Cell Lymphoma, which is a very aggressive cancer and is being treated at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Sacramento, CA. For the next 6 months the treatment will be very aggressive, with multiple spinal tap infusions, chemo shots, pills, and chemo infusions. The duration of treatment will be 2-3 years. Austin has had to undergo multiple procedures during the last month and a half and through it all has maintained his positive attitude and smile. He has many more procedures to go through and a long road ahead of him, especially during the next six months.
We are reaching out to help Austin and his family through this difficult time as he undergoes three years of treatment. It is going to be a long journey but Austin and his family are up for the fight against cancer. Financially this will be a difficult time as Austin's parents Eric and Debi Mitchell will be missing a significant amount of work taking Austin to his treatments which will impact them financially along with any unexpected medical costs associated with his diagnosis. Any help would be greatly appreciated and please keep Austin in your prayers and help spread the word, thank you!
