Austin moved to Kentucky almost two years ago to start a new life for himself. He has worked so hard these past two years, working two jobs and going to college and earning his spot on the Dean’s List. We are so proud of all his accomplishments.

On Friday May 16, Austin was found unresponsive in his apartment where he lives alone. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he underwent hours of brain surgery on Saturday May 17 to control the massive bleeding on his brain. By the grace of God, his mother Barbie called his phone after not being able to reach him and connected to an ICU nurse on Sunday May 18 who was able to tell her of his medical emergency.

His mother Barbie, brother Devyn, and sister Hailee immediately rushed from Michigan to his bedside in Kentucky.

Our only information at this time is that they have removed the left portion of Austin’s skull to control the bleeding and swelling. He has also suffered a shift to his brain stem, that is beginning to correct. When weaned from sedation, he has been able to respond to some questions to squeeze the doctor’s hand and give a thumbs up. He is not able to use his left (his dominant) side at all at this time.

During surgery, an AVM (bundle of tissue) that was located in his brain was removed and has been sent to pathology for testing. We are waiting on the results.

We are calling out to our prayer warriors to keep Austin in your prayers as we get through these next critical days, and then the long road to recovery ahead. We also ask that you keep his mother and siblings in your prayers as they sit by his bedside and make decisions on his behalf.
