This story is of my amazing son, Austin Beimers. Today we started the battle with cancer again, he is 22. The first time was in Feb 2019, his knee hurt and we had saved up to finally go on a big vacation that year. Usually it's just camping around our state but we had an opportunity to go along to Florida. I took him to the doctor since he was going to be walking around a lot, never was my guess cancer. He has ostesarcoma, the hardest one to beat. He had to have his leg removed above his knee and a year of chemo. We started the prosthetic path and physically therapy, and then covid. He couldn't get his new leg adjusted right until they opened again. After a few months his knee on his remained his hips and back were all taking the stress of walking wrong and being on leg. October last year his scan showed more spots in his lung. He had lung surgery to take those out. We finally got a better fitting leg and were finally able to get around better. He has Medicaid so it wasn't covered. Mary free bed kindly helped him with it through there programs, so it's quite basic, and squeaks like a tin man because he's fallen in the dirt a few times. I started a new job since I had to quit my first one to take care of austin and my husband, who had brain cancer at the same time. Their surgery's were 4 days apart. I was able to work a week when the next scan showed it again in his chest. This time it's in his thorax, growing into his major veins, bone, and airways. He had biopsy done to check glands and tumor. Thankfully it wasn't in his glands. A day or two later he starts coughing. It continues for a week then he coughed up a big blood clot. The next two days he did it again. At the er his scan showed it tripled in size in two weeks. Because of this surgery is not an option it too dangerous being by his major veins. Chemo can help shrink but not by much. Radiation is an option to get the two biggest areas but not the rest . Pills to help keep it from growing so fast but only 4 months before he would have to pick another option and lastly hospice care where he can do nothing but his life out. My heart again breaks for my son who is too young to hear this. It's not fair. Today as I write this I'm sitting by my son in his hospital room as his poor body gets cut open again to get a new port in and chemo immediately tonight. He will be here for 6 days and home for two weeks, on a continuing 6 month cyle.We have been one income for 2yrs and its tight without adding in gas and food costs. He desperately needs a new bed and mattress and he has so many dreams he wants to do but don't have that ability. So hopefully through the kindness of strangers we can help him with as much as we can while he's here with me. Thank you for listening to our story and are able to help join it.
