Ausrine was badly hit by a car back in August 2019, while crossing the road on a marked pedestrian crosswalk in Pervalka, Lithuania, where she was working during the summer time. The impact was so strong she was sent flying 32 meters. The car followed downhill, crushing her into a tree which resulted in multiple injuries and open fractures. The fire brigade was called to pull her out of under the car and at that point her chances of survival were next to none.
Once she was taken to the hospital, doctors had advised Ausrine's family to say their goodbyes, as they did not expect her to live through the night.
Despite the very critical condition Ausrine survived the night and few days later she woke up from coma.
To fast-forward the long story of many, many surgeries, Ausrine is now healing, her spine and eyesight is OK, however she is still constantly in and out of hospitals. She has bone infections in both of her legs, which leads to many complications. Infected bone tissues were removed in one leg, resulting in four skin transplant surgeries to close the open bones. Another leg has infection in the ankle, where the joint tissues have already been removed.
Doctors’ prognosis for the future is still unclear. One leg has serious bone infection, another is missing a nerve. They have been suggesting to amputate, however Ausrine's main wish is to save her legs. Even if all goes well, she still has to undergo arm, knee, ligament and multiple ankle surgeries.
For the past 9 months she has been bed-bound. Her mother and other family members are working round the clock supporting her, however with the Covid-19 pandemic things changed, as many were worried to bring the infection to Ausrine. Since Ausrine is 20 years old and that means she’s an adult, her mother (who is a single parent), is not able to take leave from work which makes things even harder. With some medical bills covered, there are still various medications, disinfectants, bandages and supplements to provide, so Ausrine’s mother has to carry on with her full time job to be able to pay for those. On top of cooking, changing the bandages and caring for Ausrine, there is also an ongoing lawsuit which demands a lot of time providing documents and attending the court.
Ausrine was hit by a young man who denies the charges and hasn't even contacted Ausrine or her family once to see how she is or to offer any support.
Ausrine is a fighter. She keeps in good spirits and tries her best to stay positive in this unfortunate and life changing situation. Since the accident she had to postpone her medical care studies. Last time I visited her in the hospital she was joking she is still studying, but now from the practical point.

To support Ausrine in her healing and her mother who is tirelessly caring for her and fighting for the truth, please donate, no matter how little you can. It is the small acts of kindness that make the biggest impact.
THANK YOU
Thank you all so much for your support and kindness, to my cousin Egle, for her enormous strength caring after her daughter, and for my niece, Ausrine, for the courage, strength and endurance fighting for her life.
UPDATE (12.06.2020)
Unfortunately Ausrine's left leg bone infection was getting worse, and was amputated yesterday, below the knee.
The surgery went well and, however she has more surgeries scheduled on her right leg, which has a new bone fracture.. Ausrine doesn't complain and said she's feeling OK, despite the fact that due to the Covid-19 she isn't allowed any visitors and is all by herself.
Once again thank you all for all your kindness and support!
