Help Aurora Get Heart Treatment(S-ICD surgery) at Vanderbilt

I'm Brooke, Aurora's mom. She is such a light in this world. The best kid and big sister you could ask for. Aurora is 6 and at her yearly pediatric checkup, her doctor noticed a murmur that hadn't been heard before. They sent us to our local cardiologist. The cardiologist did an EKG & ultrasound, and it came back that Aurora's heart was enlarged; the center is thicker than the outside. They wanted to do genetic screening, a heart monitor, and to send her to Vanderbilt Children's for some additional tests and to meet with a specialist there. The genetic screening came back, and she has a genetic mutation in her mcyb3 gene which has caused her enlarged heart. They have given her a diagnosis of HCM, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

We are scheduled at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital on October 25th for the additional tests and to meet with a specialist there.

UPDATE:

We went in on 10/25/24 for a cardiac MRI, afterward we met with a specialist who specializes in her gene mutation. Auroras septum(the center of her heart) measures 29mm. This growth is caused by her genetic mutation. They are looking at placing a ICD( defibrillator) in her within the next 6 months. I am updating this gofund me as this has turned into us going to Vanderbilt a lot more now. I will update once her procedure is scheduled and share again.

UPDATE 1/6/25:

Aurora is scheduled for her S-ICD surgery on 2/26/25. We will travel to Vanderbilt 2/25/25 for her pre-op appointment and she will have her surgery the following morning. Thankfully Aurora qualifies for a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator, which is placed under her armpit near the ribcage. It's less invasive and has a better recovery time than a traditional ICD. She has another echo scheduled 1/16/25 to measure her septum and see if there is any more growth.

Updating the gofundme to hopefully help alleviate the costs for gas, food, the hotel room the night before surgery ;because of her preop appointment Tuesday,once admitted Wednesday we will be able to stay with her in her room, and a rental car(my car can't make the trip, & missed worked for the week of surgery.
