Aloha! I am Shari (Sharon) Olson, a longtime Kauai resident/friend of Auntie Lahela Chandler Correa in Wainiha, Kauai.
Hurricane Lowell caused the Wainiha River to overflow and rise above Auntie's cottage, which is a few feet above the ground. Her cottage was flooded, and she needs new flooring.
Her old flooring was removed to prevent mold.
Two weeks after the flood, I asked Auntie what she needs. She didn't say new blankets, a mattress, rugs, personal items, or household goods! Auntie did not ask for anything for herself!
I am starting this fund to help Auntie get the commercial wheelbarrow she said she needs, along with repairs. Auntie lives at the taro farm, which was flooded and is now covered in silt. The crops need to be rescued, and we need to get the irrigation restored.
And Auntie Lahela still needs her flooring and household items repaired/replaced.
Auntie Lahela is the co-author of a book that teaches the keiki about the Aloha Spirit. There is no better expert on what the Aloha Spirit is! Auntie Lahela shines with aloha, as does the rest of her large family, including a new 7-month-old grandbaby who also lives at the farm.
We, the volunteers, helped get materials and build her outdoor shower. Auntie does not have indoor plumbing, and together I hope we can get Auntie the repairs she needs!
Please give and share. Even $1 helps the beautiful people of Kauai!
Mahalo
