In August of 2025, my Auntie Janine lost her partner, her closest friend, and the greatest supporter of her creative life. Gregory and Aunt Janine were together for 20 years. His death was sudden and devastating, altering every aspect of her life—her sense of safety, her ability to earn a living, and her plans for the future. They were committed to growing old together and supporting one another until the end. I believe Greg would have wanted her to remain in their home. But sadly, his adult children have chosen to evict her. She was served a sixty-day eviction notice at the end of December, before she had time to properly grieve, let alone plan a safe transition for a place to live and work.

Aunt Janine is 78 years old and a lifelong dedicated artisan. Creating is not just a pastime for her—it is how she earns a living, how she contributes, and how she finds meaning. Designing and selling her jewelry and ceramics has always been her source of income. After establishing a 40-year business in jewelry, she realized a lifelong dream by creating her home ceramic studio. Now, with the loss of her partner and her home, she faces the daunting challenge of starting over at a time in life when stability is most needed.

She is fortunate to be able to set up a small structure on a parcel of our family's land, but she needs help covering the cost of moving, utilities, and major logistics to do so.
