August battled Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia PH+ when she was 10 years old. On February 19, 2024, 15 years after her initial diagnosis her cancer relapsed. She was treated at MaryBridge Hospital where she was treated the first time. August received immunotherapy and oral chemo therapy during her first months stay, since then she has been in and out of the hospital. Her doctors are working hard to find a good chemo fit but insurance has been denying their coverage on the specific chemo treatments the doctors would prefer. She will be meeting with the high risk oncology team at Fred Hutch soon to help with a treatment plan. With her diagnosis she has been told she will also be out of work for at least 6 months while she undergoes treatment. And on top of this she will need to move to Seattle for 5 weeks in the near future to be near her treatment center.
