Help Aubrey's Students Paint a Mural!

Donation protected

Hello!

I'm Aubrey, owner/educator at Aubrey's Music Studio in Minneapolis. On August 7, 2021, my students will be holding their first in-person concert since the COVID-19 pandemic began. To celebrate being together again, we're throwing a big block party! Along with a big list of fabulous student performances, I am holding a collaborative mural painting event with local mural artist Hibaaq Ibrahim. I'm raising money to help fund the mural!

A little backstory

I'm a lifelong musician and a career educator, and for years I've dreamed of owning my own music studio. My dream was finally realized when I bought a home in July 2020. Since then, I've worked hard to create beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces in my home, for my students to learn and grow their craft. I am so thrilled to build this new musical community with my 50+ violin, viola and piano students and their families!

A new tradition

Now that I've launched my music studio, I'm excited to nurture and grow this new musical community. I've decided to start a tradition of an annual Aubrey's Music Studio Block Party: a concert we'll put on every year for the neighborhood to enjoy. My students are preparing solo and group performances of their favorite music to share with their friends and family in a big outdoor concert outside my house.

A collective creation

I want my students to feel a sense of collective ownership and investment in our new studio. That's where the mural project comes in! In a few weeks, Hibaaq will hold a planning meeting with students, where they will share their dreams for what the mural will look like. Based on their ideas, Hibaaq will sketch the mural on the side of my garage (facing the backyard, one of the spaces where lessons are held), and on the day of the concert, students will paint the mural together under Hibaaq's guidance.

About the artist!

From Hibaaq Ibrahim's website : "My mural journey began the summer of 2020. If you live in Minneapolis, you know it was very tumultuous time. I wanted to do something positive in the community in response to all that was happening. So I asked the owner of Southside Food and Deli if I could paint his storefront into a colorful advertisment of the delicious food served at the Deli inside. He kindly agreed and I haven’t stopped painting murals since. I did several community murals with artist collectives like Sota Lettering Co. and City Mischief Murals. I loved the experience of bringing art from the heart to the city with other artists who shared the same sentiments. This led to two murals I directed with the youth of the 4H club I co-led at my local library. Community murals are the perfect bridge between my passions of youthwork and art."

Want to help us fund our mural?

I'm hoping to raise $1000, to help cover the $1900 cost of the mural project. Any amount helps! I'm hoping to complete our fundraising goal by 8/7/21, the day of our concert.

Thank you for your support!
