Atlas is my friend Mai’s beloved horse. After years of putting her own dreams aside because life got busy, needs of others took priority, and many other obstacles, Mai finally welcomed Atlas into her life, bringing home a new family member she had long wished for. Unfortunately, the first two weeks have been incredibly bittersweet as Atlas started showing signs of a medical issue the morning after coming home. At first, we hoped it was something minor like a small infection, but after the initial workup, the vet confirmed it is more serious. The possibilities range from bladder stones that would require surgery, to something more severe like cancer. These conditions would not have developed overnight but would have existed prior to the sale. However, the previous owner failed to disclose any medical issues. After speaking with the previous owner, he expressed he couldn’t afford to refund the sale but offered a small amount to help. Mai is left with a looming and very unexpected bill.

Mai is an incredibly hard worker who generously gives back to her community by organizing and delivering donations to women’s shelters and natural disaster relief efforts as well as uplifting small business owners. She is an integral part of the community, an incredible friend, and veteran’s wife. Now, she and Atlas need our help. The funds raised will go directly toward diagnostic testing, treatment, surgery, and medication to give Atlas the best chance at a long, happy life with his new family.
