Help Atlas Secure Safe Housing

I'm Atlas, I'm known in the bluesky community for sharing fun art, spicy takes on cops and racism and capitalism, and my work in the mutual aid community. Today I'm asking for aid for myself and my partner.

Not long after my partner arrived in Portland, I learned about my roommate's covert racism. A person I've lived with for 3 years and thought of as family seemed to become a whole new person virtually overnight, acting in a manner actively racist to my partner and actively hostile to both of us. It's become clear that this living situation is unsafe, and with my roommate now threatening dubious legal action -- literally an attempt to make me homeless -- it's clear he's unwilling to facilitate a peaceful exit and this is a problem we'll need urgent financial support to solve.

I've set our fundraising goal to cover the upper end of *potential* move-in costs.

This includes fees at the apartment we're applying on (application fee, first month, last month, security deposit), renting a U-Haul and a storage unit so our possessions are safe in case roommate tries anything untoward; we're also including the cost of hiring movers (because my partner is physically disabled and I'm old and my bones are practically dust), and the cost of some key used furniture items (bed for my partner, couch for common area, kitchen & housewares). If we aren't able to raise these last two items we will do our best to marshall support from among our mostly-disabled and/or also ancient friends, but this kind of support would help reduce the amount of physical damage we incur during a hectic and stressful move.
