Help Atira Replace Stolen Car

Hello everyone, my name is Atira. I am currently living in Arcata, CA. I work at one of our local Native American health clinics as a Community Nutrition Assistant. Some of my work includes providing clients with free and low-cost food resources, assisting with applying for CalFresh, promoting nutrition education and gardening, working out in the garden, documenting the work we do, and so much more.

In my free time I book and promote local music shows for all ages in Arcata and Eureka either at venues or house shows with handmade collaged flyers. Some of the bands I’ve had the pleasure of booking out here include Othiel, Morning Dew, So Concerned, Growing Pains, Mauve, Poorsport., ORangepeel, and other awesome bands that are part of the California punk and emo scene.

Last week on Monday December 11, my car was stolen from outside my home and crashed during a pursuit. The person who stole my car was arrested with a DUI but it has been extra tricky dealing with the situation or getting information because they are a minor. After taking off with my car, the kid threw out all of my personal belongings. This included my seed collection, an irreplaceable box of family photos, camping gear, and other miscellaneous things including cultural items. My insurance will not cover the costs of any damage, lost items, or bills.

Since my vehicle was in such bad shape, it was leaking oil & fluids all over. The towing company offered to move it home for me but said they couldn’t park it on the street because of the oil leaking. I had no other option but to sign the vehicle over to the towing company and pay the fee so I didn’t rack up a higher bill. It would have been an additional $70 every day.

I was stuck with a $350 towing fee for my car being stolen and I no longer have a car.
