My name is Aten, and for eight years I owned and operated Haunted History Ghost Tours of Seattle, one of the highest-rated ghost tour companies in the Pacific Northwest. I founded the company in 2016 after working in the local tourism industry, determined to create a safe and welcoming experience for both guests and staff. My tours quickly became a favorite for locals and visitors alike, and I was on the verge of expanding when the pandemic hit. I did not apply for or pursue a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan. Instead, I took on significant credit card debt , believing I could pay it down as tourism returned. Unfortunately, recent government policies have devastated the local tourism industry, and I have just now had to permanently close my award winning business. The loss of all my hard work is deeply painful, and the financial burden has followed me ever since.

Carrying this debt has deeply affected my existing health problems and well-being. I live with a neurological disability, and the constant stress has made my seizure disorder worse, leading to more frequent episodes, severe insomnia, and anxiety. Most days, my energy is spent worrying about bills and my future, leaving little left for the creative work that brings me joy. I have a nearly completed fantasy game world manuscript and dozens of video ideas for my YouTube channel, We Love TTRPGs, but the weight of this debt has been paralyzing.
