Help Atef recover from imprisonment and torture
Donation protected
Hi, My name is Rachel and I'm fundraising for a Palestinian asylum seeker, Atef, who has recently arrived in Ireland. He fled unspeakable torture and violence in the West Bank and had been sleeping in a tent at the IPO since arriving in Ireland on 7 March until a volunteer recently took him in short-term.
He is a former political prisoner and spent seven years in an Israeli occupation jail where he endured daily torture. This included being beaten with batons all over his body, being left for hours in his underwear in the prison yard during wintertime, being subjected to electric shocks all over his body, having German Shepherd police dogs set upon him in his cell, as well as other forms of humiliating and degrading treatment.
He was released in 2023 and a few months later was attacked by armed Israeli settlers who intend to build an illegal settlement on his land. He was stabbed twice in the stomach and shot in the leg and his home was destroyed by a drone-fired missile.
His wife and five children were forced to flee to Jordan due to threats by the settlers to kill this man’s 14-year-old son. He is suffering from trauma and still recovering from his wounds. The experience of sleeping on the streets of Dublin in a tent from 7 March until 20 April caused him to have panic attacks and he is in a near constant state of distress about his lack of income and inability to send money to his family in Jordan.
Please consider donating a small amount of money today to help support Atef on his journey of recovery from brutal treatment at the hands of the Israeli occupation forces and zionist settlers.
