My name is Logan, and I'm raising money to help cover medical expenses for my dog Astrid. Astrid has been my constant companion and psychiatric service dog, allowing me to overcome the psychiatric needs I've struggled with for years. I fully credit her with my ability to live a normal life today, and just like she has been by my side every day and supported my needs, I can't image not trying everything I can to make the care she needs available to her.
On October 21st, the day after her 6th birthday, I brought her in for what we expected to be a routine wellness exam and round of vaccinations. She's still so young for her breed and has always been in perfect health, so it was a massive shock when her veterinarian called me the next day to let me know her bloodwork came back with a serious case of anemia, however the cause wasn't clear and would require more lab work to be done.
On the outside, she seemed mostly herself other than some changes in her appetite, but she was operating with about 50% of the red blood cells she should have, and coming dangerously close to needing a blood transfusion. In just a few days, her numbers plummeted even further and she was hospitalized and in urgent need of a blood transfusion to get her stabilized.
She's been receiving excellent care from the emergency pet hospital, and is undergoing more tests, but unfortunately we are still waiting to find a definitive diagnosis. Thankfully, after two blood transfusions and some medication, she seems to be stabilized for the time being while we continue to search for the cause.
She's a strong resilient girl, and I can tell she's fighting to feel better if we can just give her the chance.
As you can imagine, the bills started to add up very quickly. In total, her medical costs have reached over $12,000 since October 21st. Sadly, as the doctors at the animal hospital have noted also, financial reasons can be just as big a threat to her as her illness, and I'm desperately seeking a little help along the way to help pay her back for all the help she's given me over the years.
It's very likely, whatever the diagnosis is found to be, that she will require some sort of ongoing treatment, whether it's long-term medication or more regular testing and serious medical support. There are still some unanswered questions, but right now I'm thankful that we've made it through the last two weeks and have a more hopeful path ahead if we can find a bit more support along the way.
