Let me tell you a story about one of my very good friends. Some of you know her as Astrid, others know her as Karen, still others as RocketPepper, but all of you know her as a deeply kind-hearted and self-sacrificing woman who would do anything for a friend in need. In the short time that I have had the pleasure of being her friend I have seen her give so much of herself to others to make their lives easier and happier. I hope that through this GoFundMe I can do the same for her.
Astrid has been living in Canada as a Permanent Resident and is getting ready to go through the process to become a full fledged Canadian citizen. Many people who are unfamiliar with the process of immigrating to Canada may not understand the emotional and financial burden this can take on an individual. While the application fee may seem manageable ($630) there are additional costs such as official language testing by a third-party ($250) and fees for documents and photographs. After becoming a citizen there are still more fees such as that to get a Canadian passport ($160). Citizenship applicants also need to pass a test on rights and responsibilities of Canadians as well as Canadian history and laws.
Astrid has contributed positively to all the communities she's in, she supports local businesses, and is always the first to get involved in a good cause. She made the sacrifice to leave the country where her friends and family lived to come to Canada, fully embracing this country we all love so much. I don't think many of us can understand how hard that would be as a young woman.
Astrid did not ask me to do this. She never asks for anything in return for the love she puts into the universe. But, I want to give back to this woman that has been such a positive force in my world. I would be eternally grateful if you would consider helping me ease this financial burden for her. All money raised will go directly to Astrid for use in becoming the best Canadian ever!
Lots of Love,
Katie
