Astra is a three-year-old German Shepherd Husky mix who means the world to my friend Ben. She’s a loving, loyal companion and truly the best dog anyone could ask for. Since August of last year, Astra has been facing a series of health challenges that have taken a toll on both her and Ben. Despite everything, Ben has done his best to keep up with Astra’s care while balancing school and the early stages of his career.
Over Memorial Day Weekend, Astra’s condition took a sudden turn for the worse. She spent five days in the animal hospital with a dangerously high fever and was in an almost septic state. The vets worked tirelessly, giving her antibiotics, fluids, and steroids while running countless tests to find the cause. Her bloodwork wasn’t promising at first, but thankfully, Astra made a turn for the better on the fifth day and was able to come home.
Since her release, Astra has been slowly but surely recovering at home. She’ll need to stay on medications for at least a month, and after that, she’ll undergo more testing to determine what’s really going on. Right now, the vets suspect an autoimmune disorder, a bone disease, or possibly cancer. The uncertainty and ongoing care are overwhelming for any pet owner. As Ben's birthday present, I want to send him the support he needs financially to help Astra have her best odds.
Any amount would mean the world to us! However, I ask that you keep this a secret as I want to surprise Ben. Thank you for helping give Astra the chance she deserves and for supporting Ben during this difficult time.
