Asmaa Abuamra and her family are living in Gaza, in an increasingly desperate situation. I am Gail Blackhall, Asmaa's American mentor, and I want to help the family escape to safety. Please donate whatever you can, and together we can give them a future of hope. Here's a message from Asmaa:

Salam,

Sending my love and greetings from the world’s largest open-air prison.

I am Asmaa, 26 years old. I live with a big family in Gaza. I am full of love, energy and ambition. I graduated from Al-Azhar University in 2020, majoring in English Language and Teaching Methods, with an excellent GPA. It was my dream to pursue my Master’s degree and provide a better life for my family.

But the war shattered all those dreams. All of the universities in Gaza were destroyed in the savage war. I now need to leave Gaza to continue my studies.

Before the war started on October 7, I supported my family as a freelance translator and writer. But now, I’ve lost my trusted clients, and my income is gone. During this eight-month period, we’ve been living without electricity and the internet. Food and clean water are hard to find, and it’s not safe here.

My 18-year-old sister, Israa, was supposed to start her high school exams--Tawjihi. But the war has shattered her dream, too.

We both still dream of pursuing our studies. Please help us open more doors to a better future. Any contribution, big or small, will help us.

My brother, Mahmoud, had intended to go outside Gaza to get a job after graduation before the 7th of October. However, he got stuck because he couldn’t afford the evacuation fee.

My sister, brother and I need $15,000 to evacuate to Egypt and give us a future where we can complete our studies. Please help ensure our passage to safety. And, we need $2,000 for two-month living costs in Egypt.

As I am the sole breadwinner of my five sisters: Islam (19), Iman (23), Nora (20), Israa (18), Heba (28), I need $3,000 to give them access to clean water and food when I travel abroad.

Please help our family evacuate from Gaza and take the first steps toward our future. Thank you!
