Friends, Fans, and Foes - humbly asking for your support in rebuilding my home after a total loss due to a rain storm.
Last November (2020) a big storm rolled through and tore off a big section of shingles and damaged the integrity of my home’s roof structure, so I made the decision to do a complete tear off and start new vs basic repairs that would only be a Band Aid over the real problems . Tarps and plywood kept things together while I navigated the planning into this year.
Fast forward a bit…After months of delays due to material shortages, permits, etc- I finally got crews in to start a new roof on my home this September.
Day 3 of the project - the roof was completely off of my home and crews were working to begin framing on the new roof structure. Before the contractor/crew left for the day, they put a few large tarps over the open roof to “protect” from any insignificant weather. Unfortunately, they didn’t secure the roof well enough and a BIG rainstorm rolled in just after 6pm.
by 9pm, my home was completely destroyed. Thousands of gallons of rain water came pouring in from all angles. My neighbors were helping pull out my important possessions till it became too unsafe, and the ceilings began collapsing. Thankfully nobody was hurt and a good majority of my favorite things were saved, but there was nothing anyone could do to save the interior structure and a lot of furniture/possessions.
Water mitigation crews came in 3 days later and went room by room, tearing out every wall, floor, and remaining ceiling on my main floor and basement. By the end of the day…my home was down to the studs and subfloor.
Full transparency- our contractor and I both have insurance and we are working daily on the claim. Insurance will be covering a good majority of the re-build, but there are a number of areas that insurance is falling short on recovering and I am humbly asking for help. This isn’t a situation I would wish on anyone! Thankfully I have been put in a hotel till the rebuild is complete (which as of now looks like March or April 2022).
Appreciate your time reading this and any help
