Becoming a parent is the dream of so many but yet not always easy for everyone. The road to becoming a mother and a father has its emotional ups and downs and for some, fertility roadblocks.

Ashlyn was born three months early with her intestines blocked in multiple areas. She underwent multiple surgeries, many X-rays, and was in Valley Children’s for 4 1/2 months. She was 2 lbs. 8 oz. 14 inches when she was born. When Ashlyn was 1 month old, her intestines perforated and created more scar tissue in her abdominal area. Later at age 11, she had a hemorrhagic cyst with an ovarian torsion which caused her to undergo another surgery and more scar tissue developing. She was told then that conditions may be difficult for her in the future to conceive naturally. Due to these defining moments in her young life, her body produces fewer follicles than a woman her age making conception naturally more difficult. She was a fighter then and a fighter now! She has always dreamt of becoming a mom and having her own precious little boy or girl.

Blake, her husband, was also a preemie and weighed in at 4 pounds when he was born. He suffered a severe head trauma injury when he was in high school, which induced epileptic seizures, causing him to have to take medication for the remainder of his life. This too can cause issues with fertility.

The two of them started their journey of trying to conceive a child after they married in October 2021. It has been a journey filled with ups and downs and tears, they have been through five sessions of IUI with no success. They then pursued utilizing massage therapy focused directly for pregnancy. They were lucky to conceive, but unfortunately, a miscarriage followed. As they turn now to look at IVF, they are asking friends and family to help them with this expenditure since unfortunately, insurance does not help to cover this procedure. The gift of life is so precious and it is one that they both take very seriously. They both truly want to become parents of their own precious little boy or girl.
