Urgent Assistance Needed!

Hi There! My name is Ashley-Anne Hobbins!

Greetings All,

I am a 29- year-old "Cat Mama" and wear two (2) state of the art, Behind-the-Ear hearing aids that allow me to hear, communicate and perform in society on par levels (comparative with all) in day-to-day private, business and public life and read lips expertly. Please find more information in the ''About Me'' section at the bottom of my funding appeal below.

‘’Ashley-Anne Hobbins v. DCCD’’, the Federal Lawsuit, can be readily found online.

RE: Funding Needs
Your funding contributions will help me survive day-to-day living and associated legal costs with a Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit, which I filed about 2 years ago. We are now engaging in very costly depositions, engagement with experts concerning the very substantial economic, academic and related career factors affecting my person.

**DISCLAIMER: all allegations in the aforementioned Federal Lawsuit are alleged allegations.

The lawsuit centers on specific alleged violations of my civil rights, related auditory communicative discrimination/harassment and alleged orchestrated retaliation. As claimed in my lawsuit, allegations are that I was wrongfully dropped from this Nursing Program, more than once, and the evidence chain speaks for itself. No one should be subject to the harm I have suffered, not a protected class individual, regular student or individual.

Public colleges and universities that engage the Deaf/HOH Community in academic training programs such as ADN-RN programs must take into account specific communication upgrades, required program and instructor thoroughness in communication, instructor-to-student standard written communication standards and engagement, with corresponding instructional tools.

As a rule, ADA-compliant Colleges and Universities take care that the most experienced instructors are assigned to who and where needed most and required. The ADA requires such standards and Gallaudet University, Western District is Ohlone College, is one of our Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community safeguarding hub organizations.

In particular to instructors and administrators, additional ADA related training is prescribed by law-and it should be mandatory, not optional, if ADA compliance is stated.

For Hard of Hearing individuals, we must be put into the Least Restrictive Environment (IDEA) for academic and clinical training settings. It is also imperative to pair us with the most experienced instructor, or next to the most experienced to guarantee positive outcomes in academic and clinical settings, as we are trained up into the profession by an ADA-responsive, best available instructional veteran, and not by a novice when the better option is available.

Many people know this but if you don’t, as a Hard of Hearing (HOH) individual, we exert about 25% more energy and focus, attention to detail and overall concentration than the average individual in the academic, business and public setting. We are used to this and are very organized as a result. This is not a complaint. This is actually a strength for the trained and mainstreamed Hard of Hearing individual. It also keeps us on high alert to discriminatory mal communication, mis communication, non and deceptive communication.

During this journey to protect my rights, my life and career path, I have been engaged in therapy and applying for jobs. I have always been successful in overcoming adversity in academic, sports, work and public life. But in my situation, the deck was stacked against me from almost day one, over a period of several years. The allegations are clear in the complaint.

About Me:
I am a 29- year-old, born in Paris, France, a Franco-American gal and part of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (HOH) community. I consider Wisconsin (Go Packers) my home, but live in California. A lover of many things… the outdoors, fishing & hunting, quilting/sewing, baking/cooking, outdoor sports, gardening, and the four seasons. I love Myrtle, my (Middle School-Science class adopted) three-toed Texas box tortoise and my sweet kitties. I am a PROUD "Cat Mama"!

In 2014 and 2015, I was part of the Olympic Movement's USA Deaf Swimming's-Team USA, competing for the USA and setting American Records in International competition. In addition to USADS, I represented USA Swimming and the USA Swimming Foundation as a National Delegate at the National Swimming Convention in Jacksonville, Florida with many Olympic greats, and running the USADS booth. I have been a US Masters Swimming Coach, ALTS instructor since and work with new and elite swimmers of all backgrounds, ages and abilities.

After my Team USA Swimming career ended, I continued my journey to becoming a Registered Nurse--just as was my great-grandmother, nurse Mary ''Minnie'' Mears Hobbins in early 1904, who led the fundraiser for Madison's 1st Hospital, Madison General, and was Exec Director from 1916-1918, of the Badger Chapter Red Cross. I also started 3 high school Red Cross Clubs and was awarded the Red Cross's National ‘’Everyday Hero Award’’. I am a Rotarian and Paul Harris Fellow, strongly involved in Interact in High School and chartered and presided over the Rotaract Club at this very college. I am blessed to be very active in several bloodline organizations, a church member and sing in choir! I am a philanthropist in many areas of my life!

Thank you so much for your time, consideration and assistance! Any amount donated is appreciated!
