I'm putting this together for our daughter Ashley and son-in-law, James in hopes that their burden of unexpected financial set-back can be helped.

Ashley was having difficulty breathing and hospitalized on October 18, 2025 and discharged with a diagnosis of the “flu” 2 days later. Only to be rushed by ambulance to the hospital again on October 21, 2025 and has since been fighting pneumonia.

Ashley suffers from a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy, she is wheelchair bound by this disease and it affects her entire body but especially her lungs when sick. Ashley’s lung function on a good day is only 16% capacity. Needless to say, pneumonia puts her body in a very grave situation.

During Ashley’s hospitalizations James has had to take unpaid time-off from work. And to protect his job position, James has requested Family Medical Leave which will unfortunately be unpaid leave.

This anticipated time-off will allow James to care for Ashley, as he is her caregiver and to be by her side during her recovery.

James is the main breadwinner for their family which includes our 2 grandchildren. This medical situation and loss of wages will create a huge financial set set-back .

Additionally, Georgia SNAP recipients, which Ashley and James are participants, will stop receiving food stamp benefits due to the government shutdown effectively November 1, 2025.
