Heartbreaking Update 7/14

It is with deep sadness that we share that Monty succumbed to his illness tonight.

After 10 exhausting days of fighting—a relentless high fever, swelling, anemia, and worsening blood counts—his body could no longer keep up. Despite round-the-clock care, his red and white blood cell levels continued to drop, and severe edema began to pool in his face. With mounting concern for his ability to breathe and no clear answers from ongoing tests, Ashley made the incredibly difficult decision to say goodbye and end his suffering through humane euthanasia.

In a final act of love and hope, Ashley has chosen to have a full autopsy conducted by the Clemson Veterinary Diagnostic Center. Her wish is to bring clarity to Monty’s mysterious illness and, hopefully, offer future horses a better chance if faced with a similar battle.

Throughout this ordeal, Ashley has been surrounded by compassion. We are beyond grateful to Charleston Equine, CHAPS, and the entire Hickman Equestrian barn family for their unwavering support.

7/13 Help Ashley Save Her Heart Horse, Monty

Our Ashley is in the fight of her life — for her beloved Monty, a 4-year-old Arabian horse who is currently battling a serious, undiagnosed illness. What started with subtle signs quickly turned into a critical situation. Despite numerous tests and round-the-clock care, answers remain elusive. Monty’s condition is uncertain, but one thing is clear: he’s still fighting — and so are we.

Monty is more than just a horse. To Ashley, he is a partner and soul. Their bond is deep, and their journey together was just beginning. Monty is receiving every bit of love and expert care possible. Local veterinarians are doing everything they can, working tirelessly and in close consultation with the University of Georgia’s veterinary specialists.

But this level of care comes at a great cost — one that is quickly becoming overwhelming.
