Help Ashley and Hazel Find Stability and to Heal

Dear friends and compassionate individuals, my name is Leanne and I’m reaching out to you today to share the heartbreaking story of my dear friend, Ashley and her daughter, Hazel. For the past ten years, Ashley dedicated herself to being a loving stay-at-home mom while her husband provided for their family with an annual 6 figure income.

However, their seemingly stable life took a devastating turn when they were blindsided by an aggressive FBI raid conducted on their home. Ashley was informed their home needed to be searched, electronics seized, and her husband was being arrested for heinous, unthinkable crimes; landing him 10 to life in prison. Overnight, Ashley’s world crumbled, leaving her a single mother with no income or financial support and suffering from PTSD. Tragically, the trauma has also taken a toll on Hazel’s mental health, to the point where her school reached out due to her searching for the easiest ways for someone to take their own life.

Determined to create a better future for herself and Hazel, Ashley managed to secure employment as soon as possible; that’s where we crossed paths. Just when they were barely keeping afloat with their monthly bills, Ashley was unexpectedly let go from her job in late August. Despite her relentless efforts to find new employment while applying for every assistance program available to no avail, the bills piled up leading to utility shut-offs, threats to vehicle repossession, and eviction notices.

The situation reached its breaking point when just days ago, weeks before Christmas!! Ashley, Hazel, and Ashley’s 63-year-old disabled mother were locked out of their home as the eviction was finalized. Imagine the despair they felt, facing homelessness during what should be a joyous time of year.

In the midst of their darkest hour, a glimmer of hope emerged. Just 30 minutes after being locked out, Ashley received a call from a potential employer, offering her a job position. Ashley’s resilience and determination have paid off, and she started her new job this week. However, the weight of their current circumstances makes it incredibly challenging for her to make ends meet. She has to retrieve all property from her old residence and does not have the means to do so. The odds are against her and the stress of moving, storing, getting Hazel to and from school, and vehicle up for repossession -all while starting a full time job and feeling the burden of homelessness.

This is where we can make a difference. Together, we can help break the cycle of trauma and loss that Ashley and Hazel have endured.
